Geologists have named the area of altitude changes in southern Utah, The Grand Staircase of the Escalante. Uplift and erosion have carved out the steps of the staircase that extends from the Grand Canyon on the lowest step to Arches National Park near Moab, Utah as the highest step.(Photo/Will Powers)
